Mrs. Arlene Evelyn (Swanson) Martin quietly departed this life Friday, July 17, 2020 at the age of 85. Arlene, daughter of the late Swan Swanson and Laura Swanson was born March 10, 1935.

She attended Dewitt Public Schools and Eastern High School of Lansing, MI.

At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ. Later she joined Walker Memorial Bible Church as a member, serving in music with singing.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Arthur Lee Martin in November of 1956. This union was blessed with three children. Arthur preceded her in death in November, 2008.

Arlene enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She hosted many large family gatherings because preserving family connections was important to her. She was an active member of the Williamston First Baptist Church, singing in the choir, playing her clarinet, teaching Sunday School for several years, and volunteering and many other ways. Her church friends were part of her family.

Arlene and Art enjoyed traveling, but they particularly enjoyed sharing these many trips with family and friends. After retirement they became snowbirds residing in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Florida, and even Arizona for a short time.

Arlene is survived by: two sons, Dennis (Mitzi) Van Cleve, Stephen (Sharon) Martin; a daughter, Dianne (Ken) Phelps; a brother, Lawrence (Evelyn) Swanson; a sister, Shirley (Richard) Moulton; a brother-in-law, Harvey (Judy) Martin; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Martin; her brothers, Edwin and Robert Swanson; and her sister Elinor Phelps.

Due to the current public health situation, a private burial will be held. A memorial to celebrate Arlene's life will be scheduled as soon as it is safe to do so.

Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse or the National Stroke Association.

The Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
