Virginia Hillyard, 99, of Winfield, passed away on September 1, 2020 at Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. An outdoor Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at the the family home, 202 East Wallace Street, Winfield, IA 52659. Private family burial will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Winfield.

A mask is recommended for the the visitation and service.

Virginia Maxwell was born on October 16, 1920 in Mount Union, the daughter of Guy and Grace (Keitzer) Maxwell. She graduated from Burlington High School and the Burlington College of Commerce. Virginia was united in marriage to Homer Hillyard on November 19, 1941 in Hannibal Missouri. After raising her five children, Virginia took over the accounting duties at the family business, Hillyard Implement. Virginia was a very active member of the Winfield Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School for over 20 years. Virginia enjoyed taking care of her large garden, reading the bible, cooking, and camping, but most of all she loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her children, Neil (Sherry) Hillyard of Parker, CO, Rita (Tim) Smith of Houston, TX, Jean Ann (Leon) Peterson of Winfield, Janet (Myron) Rees of Ainsworth, Susan (Jerry) Long of Ames; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Naomi Lindell of Winfield and many extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Pauline Smith, Norma Haight and Virgil Maxwell.
