Philip A. Bivins, 75, of Gray, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held at Elam Memorial Gardens in Gray with the Reverend Gary Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Elam Baptist Church, 203 Elam Church Road, Gray, GA 31032.

Born in Macon to the late Gladys Bivins Wise and John Carlton Bivins, Mr. Bivins lived most of his life in Jones County, graduating from Georgia Military College in Milledgeville and Georgia State University in Atlanta with a degree in business management. He served in the United States Army in the Finance Corps at Fort Myer, Virginia, where he was recognized as Supervisor of the Year at the young age of 23.

After the Army, Mr. Bivins returned to Jones County, where he managed, and eventually owned, Gray Concrete Service for 34 years. After realizing retirement did not suit him, he started a new venture by co-founding Oconee Concrete Service, located in multiple locations in Alabama and Georgia.

Mr. Bivins was beloved by all who knew him and those who met him for only a short time. He had a larger than life personality and everyone gravitated to him. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family. Everything he did was for his family. He was generous to a fault. He was known for his business savvy, humor and loyalty to his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world with his friends and family. Mr. Bivins was a member of Elam Baptist Church.

Mr. Bivins was preceded in death by his brothers, Carlton Bivins and Billy Bivins. He was also preceded by his father-in-law, Sanford Ethridge, mother-in-law, Nellene Davis Ethridge, and brother-in-law, Sanford Ethridge, Jr.

Mr. Bivins is survived by his faithful, loving wife of 52 years, Marianne Ethridge Bivins; his loving children and their spouses, Deanne (Rob) Bivins Edmisten and Philip (Tarin) Bivins; three precious grandchildren, his greatest treasures, Harper and Hayden Bivins and Jax Edmisten; sister, Sylvia Pierce of Macon; brother, Larry Bivins (Helen) of Augusta, Georgia; and a large, extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends, also considered family.
