Janis Lynn Smith (Johnson) was born June 18, 1948 and passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on Thursday February 11, 2016.
On August 18, 1967 Janis married the love of her life Larry N. Smith, and thus began the start of an epic adventure that included raising up three rambunctious boys; Corey, Kerby and Casey.
After the boys were grown, Larry and Janis moved to Lake Tyler in East Texas where she proudly acquired the name "GranJan." There she passionately poured all of her heart into spoiling her four beautiful grandchildren; Sydney, Stanton, Mackenzie, and Sawyer.
Janis was a devoted wife who would have celebrated her 49th wedding anniversary this year. She was also a loving mother, and a dedicated grandmother with a passion for sharing her artistic talents with her grandchildren. She was very proud of her family and cherished every time she heard her grandchildren call her by her new name "GranJan." Janis loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. Even when she did not feel well she would spend hours cooking and preparing for her family and friends.
Janis was known for her feisty, witty, yet sweet sense of humor. She will be missed by all of those that knew her and loved her.
Janis was the beloved wife of Larry N. Smith, devoted mother of Corey Smith and wife Candice Smith, Kerby Smith & wife Rebecca Smith, Casey Smith & wife Deborah Smith. Janis was a faithful Sister to Joyce (Jolly) Ayrhart and Jay Johnson and loving grandmother to Sydney Smith, Stanton Smith, Mackenzie Smith and Sawyer Smith. Janis was also very special to all of her neighbors on Cardinal Ln in Troup.
Services for Janis Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Hilliard Funeral Home with Rev. Shelby Davidson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. before the service. Lunch will be provided following the service, at the Hilliard Residence.
Janis graduated from Robert E. Lee HS Baytown, TX, class of 1966.
