Marvin Milton Smith, also known as Rusty or Jinks, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at the age of 85. He was born May 3, 1935 to Selma Peese and James Marvin Smith in Stonewall, Texas.

Marvin was a bulldozer and scraper operator in this area for many years. He taught his boys how to operate heavy equipment. He also knew how to shear sheep, farm and ranch. One of his loves was to ride horses. His favorite horse was Polly, on whom he could do many tricks. He passed on his love for horses to his only daughter and several grandchildren. Marvin also loved to play various games of 42, shoot the moon and straight dominoes. He loved to travel the countryside just to visit other places. Marvin loved to spend time with his family.

Marvin is survived by his children and their spouses Don and Kim Smith of Alpine, TX, Dolores Smith and Martin Abeyta of Ribera, NM and Dave and Patricia Smith of Fredericksburg; his grandchildren Joshua and Catherine Smith of Fredericksburg, Casie Smith of Fredericksburg, Joe Smith of Ribera, NM, Daniel and Michelle Smith of Fredericksburg, Devren Smith of Ribera, NM, Shyla and Kevin Kalbacher of Harper, and Kaleigh Smith of Fredericksburg; and his great grandchildren Jo Lynn Smith, Allison Borlace, Jasminne Smith, Dalton Smith, Jennavieve Smith, Daniel Lee Smith and Carmen Kalbacher.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Selma and James Smith, his siblings and their spouses Ruth and Rueben Hohenberger, Rufus Smith, Margaret Thomas, Pearl and Clifton Land, and Elizabeth and Pat Petmecky.

A special thank you to all of you at the Hill Country Hospice and the Knopp’s Nursing Home Staff who have worked with and cared for Marvin the last two years from Marvin and his whole family. He dearly loved you all. And a special thanks to Schaetter’s Funeral Home for taking care of Marvin’s final arrangements.

Marvin did not want a formal funeral service but did want a gathering of his friends and family for a celebration of life which will be announced at a later date.

Marvin was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
