Born in Alameda, California, he was the son of James Don and Ima Jean (Thornburgh) Burnett. He married Kathryn Daphane Weston on Aug. 30, 1969, in Wilburton. He was a 1970 graduate of Oklahoma State University. He was a Southeast District Forester for the Oklahoma Forestry Service and was a member of the Oklahoma Forestry Association. A resident of Hatfield, Arkansas, he died in Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Chester and Ruya Thornburgh; paternal grandparents, William S. and Clara Burnett and aunt, Vivienne Burnett.
