Myrtle L. Malek, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Newton Medical Center.She was born May 25, 1935, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to R.E. and Margaret (Anderson) Emerson. Myrtle was a loving and giving person, and she greatly enjoyed caring for many friends and family through the years in both good times and bad. She also enjoyed spending time camping and traveling.Myrtle will be missed by her loving family and many friends she had made on her life's journey.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, LeRoy, Jerry, Richard and Paul Emerson; and two sisters, Ruby Murphy and Lavonda Sue Banda. She also was preceded in death by a son, Larry Barnthouse.
A gathering of celebration and memories of Myrtle will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at the Petersen Funeral Home. The family will greet friends during this time. A private family interment will be at a later date.
