Ms. Bettie Diane Armstrong, 90, went home to be with Jesus on June 14, 2013 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

She was born in Frankfurt, Germany on January 13, 1923 to George Abrahamshon & Rosa Simon, who she affectionately referred to as Papa & Mutti.
Mr. Abrahamshon, who practiced law as a humble labor lawyer passed away when Bettie was just 5 years old, leaving behind Bettie, her twin sister Edith, and brother, Alfred "Alfie". Ms. Rosa Simon-Abrahamshon passed away as a victim of the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination camp at Auschwitz. As a consequence of loosing her father, the only bread-winner, and the emerging rise of the Nazi regime, Bettie spent a large part of her childhood in a German-Jewish orphanage with her sister. Having been born a German Jew and escaping persecution, she, along with her sister, immigrated to the U S in 1937 aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Upon her arrival to the U S at the age of 14, Bettie and her sister were fostered out to a fine couple referenced to as Uncle Ben & Auntie Clara Hiller of San Francisco, California, who would affectionately provide a home and family for her and her sister. Bettie graduated from Balboa High School, San Francisco, California, following which, she attended the Mollie June Academy of Art. While employed with the Granas Brothers Jewelry Company, she attended a dance at the USO in San Fran, where she met the love of her life, the former Olin Armstrong of Pineville, Missouri, serving as a young enlisted-man in the US Navy during World War II. They were later married on December 20, 1945 in Washington DC. Following her marriage she left her foster family and twin sister to join her beloved Olin in Pineville. She would make a lifetime home in Pineville where she and Olin would adopt, love and support their children David and Debbie. Bettie, over her lifetime in Pineville served as a homemaker, wife and mother. She was an avid reader and student of history. After fully accepting her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into her life, she would actively participate in church auxiliaries and community based organizations. She was affectionately known for her whistling solos and being a prayer warrior. Bettie was recognized by the local chapter of the American Legion for 50 years of committed membership and service.

Bettie was preceded in death by her beloved Olin and son David.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Tinnin and husband, Jim, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; granddaughter, Stacy Palmer and husband, Fred, of Joplin, Missouri; grandson, Jeffrey Grissom and wife, Stacie, of Pineville, Missouri; grandson, Jamie Tinnin and wife, Christy, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; granddaughter, Noelle Petty of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Martin Tinnin of San Diego, California; granddaughter, Terra Tinnin of San Francisco, California; great grandchildren, Judge and Sidnee Palmer; Desiree, Cash, and Ethan Grissom; Marin and Canyon Tinnin; and Bronson Petty.

Burial services will be private. A memorial service will take place at Pineville United Methodist Church on June 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Marilyn O'Brian and Rusty Smith officiating.
