Rev. Swift was the son of Isaac Swift and Rebecca Dimmick Swift. Born in Geneva, he was educated in Orange County, NY and in 1869 he graduated from the Union Theological Seminary. On 12 Oct 1869 he married Emma A Jaynes (d. 23 Nov 1929) of Steuben County, NY. They were the parents of two children, Lulu and William Ray. After serving as a Presbyterian minister in several locations, on 17 November 1878 he took charge of a Presbyterian congregation in East Syracuse, where he remained pastor for 50 years, retiring in 1928. During his tenure church membership increased significantly and Rev. Swift remained interested and active in church work after his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife and was survived by his children.
