Richard Wilbur Engle, 66, of 502 McHenry Ave., Woodstock, 111., formerly of 317 S. Park St., died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 1994, at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday March 12, at Elias Funeral home.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Saturday at the funeral home.
Born May 8, 1927, in Streator, he was the son of Wilbur F. and Constance (Kline) Engle. He married Barbara Fellows on Jan. 31, 1949.
Surviving are daughters, Stephanie Knake of Belvidere and Rebecca Smith of Fox Lake; four grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; a brother, Edward Engle, of Plymouth, Ind. ; sisters, Lura Marie (Mrs. Frank) Kiesa of Downers Grove and Martha (Mrs. Florian) Centko of Streator; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Esther Barickman, of Downers Grove.
A 1945 graduate of Streator High School, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in political science and graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1968 with a master of science degree in counselor education. He taught at Woodland Jr. High School from 1955 to 1960 and Creston High School from 1960-61. He was a teacher and guidance counselor at Genoa-Kingston High School from 1961 to 1973. He retired from the educational field after 18 years in 1973 due to illness. He served in the Army with the Cavalry in Japan during World War II. He was a volunteer for La Salle County Mental Health and was one of the founders of St. Mary's Stroke Club. He was an active participant and past president of the Fox Valley Survivors Stroke Club, McHenry County.
