Margie Woltjer Obituary

Woltjer, Margie A. Jenison, MI Margie Ann (Lucas) Woltjer, age 90, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on October 8, 2020. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Shirlene Marie Gabriel and Dan (Trish) Woltjer; her brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Betty Lucas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cathy Van Dyk, Marielouise Woltjer, John and Tena VanderHelm; many beloved nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Jimmy (Tasha) McDowell, Patrick (Kelsey) McDowell, Abby McDowell; and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jayden and Tanner. Marge had many fond memories of growing up with her 6 siblings on the family farm in Byron Center, Michigan. A lifelong teacher, she returned to Calvin College to earn her Education degree at the age of 40 to meet the evolving requirements of the teaching profession. She taught at Moline Christian School for over 20 years and even years later talked about how much she loved teaching. After retirement, Marge spent many winters in Winter Haven Florida, where she was a volunteer tutor and enjoyed time with a community of friends. A lover of word games, Marge played Scrabble, Boggle, and Upwords and was quite a competitor! She also loved crafts – sewing, quilting, cross stitch and crochet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Woltjer (1999); her brother, Steve; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel (Cal) Niewenhuis, Orma (Ron) Slater, Ruth (Peter) Lucas Uitvlugt, Betty (Tom) Cooper; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ted Woltjer, John (Marvella, Dorothy) Woltjer, Ann VanderHelm, Trace (Hank) Prins, Al VanDyk and Helen Lucas. A private burial service has been held at Blain Cemetery. We are grateful for the wonderful care provided to our mother by Waterford Memory Care. Memorial donations may be made to Waterford Memory Care or to the Charcot Marie Tooth Association (CMTA).
