Roy C. Rhodes Dies at 65; Executive for U.S. Steel

Roy C. Rhodes, 65, a retired sales executive of United States Steel Co., died Friday in a private hospital. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Sandy Springs Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes, who began his career at 16 as an office boy with the U.S. Steel subsidiary of Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad Co., retired in March as Atlanta district manager of sales for U.S. Steel.
Mr. Rhodes became a salesman for Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad in 1927 and was named district manager of sales in Charlotte, N.C., in 1946. He later was district manager of sales in Memphis, Tenn., and Houston, Tex.
Mr. Rhodes then was named assistant general sales manager of the eastern area in Atlanta in 1956 and general manager of sales solicitation in Birmingham, Ala., in 1959.
With the consolidation of sales activities of most United States Steel divisions and subsidiaries in 1964, he was appointed district manager of sales here holding the post until retirement.
Mr. Rhodes, a native of Augusta, was a member of St. James Methodist Church, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association and the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Elizabeth Byrd; two daughters, Mrs. J. Ernest Brim, Atlanta, and Mrs. Robert A. Wood, Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Mrs. A. C. Warren, Birmingham, Ala., and a brother, Rodney Rhodes of Miami, Fla.
