HARDIN - Frank Sharpe, 77, of Hardin, passed away Nov. 15, 2007, in St. Vincent Healthcare. He was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Freemont, Neb., a son of Emery and Nora Fritz Sharpe. At an early age, he moved with his parents to the Lodge Grass area. He graduated from Hardin High School.

Frank entered the military service in 1949, serving four years in the U.S. Army with the 1st Cavalry Division. He served with distinction during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. He then attended Heald Engineering College in San Francisco, where he studied electrical engineering and business administration.

He reentered the military service with the U.S. Air Force in 1956, assisting in the maintenance of the Minuteman ICBM systems and received the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding professional skill and leadership. His distinctive accomplishments of 17 years culminated a distinguished career in the service to his country. Following his retirement from the military in 1975, Frank joined Midland Packing in Billings, where he performed hydraulic maintenance and troubleshooting.

He developed a life-long love for jewelry design while working with the Montana Silversmiths of Columbus and he frequently gifted family members with carefully crafted gems. In 1990, he delighted the county road improvement crew in Decker with his culinary skills.

Frank married Dixie Barnett and was later divorced. He married Agnes Fowler on April 11, 1983 in Billings and later the couple made their home in Hardin. He enjoyed camping, fishing and horseshoes, but he was best known for his handmade jewelry and cooking abilities. He was a life member of the V.F.W.

He worked for Stillwater County, Montana Silversmiths and most recently in the maintenance department for the Heritage Acres Nursing Home.
