George R. Rider was born in Whiteside County, IL. He came with his parents to Chase Co., KS as a small child. At age 19 with his brothers, Frank and Columbus, he became a rancher in Barber Co., KS. In 1884 they settled in Grant Co. being among the earliest settlers. While Columbus returned to Chase Co., George and Frank spent the rest of their lives in Grant Coounty.

George married Ada Smethers 4 Sep 1887 in Stanton Co. Their children were Ruby, C. D., Flossie, Dove, Thelma, and George Ralph. George spent over 30 years in the horse breeding business and owned several well-known race horses.
