Tallahassee Mourns Loss of Newton A Blitch

All officer in the Florida State House and the State Railroad Commission were closed during the funeral services today of Newton A. Blitch, a member of the Railroad Commission and Commander of the Florida Division United Confederate Veterans, who died at his home last night.
Services were held at the First Baptist Church, of which Mr. Blitch was a member, and burial will be at Starke tomorrow.
Mr. Blitch, who was born in Marion County, October 12, 1844, enlisted in C Company, Second Florida Cavalry, in 1862 and served during the remainder of the war. At the end of hostilities he engaged in farming and stock raising and later served in both houses of the legislature and was appointed state prison inspector in 1903. Six years later he was elected a member of the railroad commission which office he has held since. He was an active worker in the United Confederate Veterans and only illness prevented him from attending this year's reunion in Chattanooga.
Mr. Blitch is survived by his widow, five children and three brothers.
J.S. Blitch, one of his sons, is superintendent at the state prison farm in Raiford.
