Betty Lou Durant, age 80, of Clarkston, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston.
She was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Lewiston to Byron and Nellie Shuss Benedict. Raised on an Anatone-area ranch, she graduated from Anatone High School in 1943.
Betty served as a registered nurse in the Army Cadet Corps from 1943 to 1947.
She married W.H. (Ben) Durant Jan. 13, 1947, in Lewiston. They moved to Weippe, where they owned and operated Durant's Grocery Store there for 40 years. They retired to Clarkston in 1987.
Betty practiced her R.N. training in Weippe for many years. She taught cooking in 4-H for six years and helped start a swim bus that took Weippe children to Orofino for swim lessons around 1960. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved to travel to see different places.
