Daughter of Charles Anderson and Huldah Ericson . She had two brothers, Leonard of Eugene,Oregon and Donald who died at the age of eight. She spent most of her youth working the family floral business. Rita graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1939 with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics. In 1940 she married Franklin W Southwick. They built and lived their lives in Amherst,MA,and raised four sons. Their sons are David,Peter,Donald and Steven.
