Mr. Alfred J. “Sonny” Alessio died suddenly on Monday April 23, in Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. Born in Boston, son of the late Alfred and Jennie (Bozzi) Alessio, he attended local schools and remained a life long Medford resident. For many years he worked as a facilitator of produce distribution in the warehouse of the Chelsea Produce Market. In a less structured environment, in later years he often could be found in Dunkin Donuts in Magoun Square in Somerville, going about his other business interests. He retired in 1988.
He was a congenial man, who had a love for the military men and women who served our country and was well versed in current affairs. He was a member of the Sons of Italy #1359 of Medford.
He is the father of Alfred “Sonny” Alessio, and Valerie Alessio both of Ohio, Francis “Butch” Alessio of TN. and Lydia Alessio of Hingham. Beloved uncle of Debra Alessio and her husband Donald of Billerica and grand uncle of Steven Lazzaro of Billerica. He leaves several other nieces and nephews. Brother of Richard Alessio of Somerville, Audrey Carr of Wakefield, Deanna Grant of Medford and the late Ronald Alessio, Dorothy Manganaro and Theresa Brangiforte. Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home 306 Main Street Medford on Monday April 30 at 9:00 AM. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St. Medford at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Those who prefer may make contributions in Sonny’s name to the Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston MA. 02241-7005.
