Tempie Lee (Bell) Alvis

ROCHESTER — Tempie Lee (Bell) Alvis, age 87, of Rochester, died Saturday, March 4, 2006. Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday March 7, 2006 at the Rochester First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dolan Brinson officiating. Burial will be at the Rochester Cemetery, directed by Mansell-Smith Funeral Home in Knox City.

Born June 16, 1918 to Allen and Minnie Lee Bell, Tempie was a lifelong resident of Haskell County. She married Earl Alvis July 31, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1995. Tempie was a housewife and a home decorator. She was a member of the Rochester United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher and Choir member. She was a member of the Bess Porter Sunday School Class. Tempie was also a member of the Rochester women's club.

She was preceded in death by: a daughter, Earlene Austin; two brothers, Howard and Hubert Bell; and one sister, Irene Hester.

Survivors include: one son, Dr. James Alvis of Rochester; one grandson, Todd Austin and wife Abby; Sisters-in-law, Mary Johnston and Elaine Glover of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

The family gives a special thank you to Haskell Home Healthcare, the Haskell Healthcare Center, and Haskell Memorial Hospital for their special care. A special thank you is given to Isabell Garcia and Emma Hernandez, special friends of our loved one.

Friends will be received at the Rochester Funeral Home on Monday March 6, 2006 from 6 PM to 7 PM . Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Rochester.
