Joseph Harold Holden, 74, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at his residence.
Harold was born July 14, 1932, in Brunswick County, NC, son of the late Corbett L. Holden and Ida Blanton Holden. Two children, Deborah Gail Holden and Beverly Ann Holden; two brothers, Alonza Holden and Wilma "Bill" Holden; and two sisters, Margaret Tripp and Clarice McLean, preceded him in death.
Mr. Holden retired from the N.C.D.O.T. after 40 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Louise Phelps Holden; three daughters, Denise Rifenburg (Douglas), Tina Pickles (David), both of Raleigh, NC, and Robin Greenway (Curtis) of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Jenny Pickles, Kristen Pickles and Nicholas Greenway; a sister, Eunice FormyDuval of Shallotte, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at Andrews Market Street Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Rev. Chris Phelps officiating. Pallbearers will be Keith Casha, Curtis Greenway, Doug Rifenburg, David Pickles, Mark Phelps and Barry Holden. Honorary pallbearers will be the N.C.D.O.T. employees. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shallotte, NC.
