Mr. Atha was moderator of the Pleasant Grove Association last year and was due to be re-elected at the recent meeting of that body, but was too ill to attend. He was pastor of Ivy Creek and Cornish Mountain churches in that association.
The deceased was forty-two years old and was a self made man. Being denied the advantages of a good education before being led of the Spirit into the ministry, he applied himself diligently to study and became an outstanding evangel of the gospel. His efforts were crowned with success in leading many souls to Christ.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Bay Creek church, where he was ordained to the ministry, by Rev. S.D. Bryant and Rev. C.C. Singleton. It was estimated that between 1,200 and 1,500 turned out to pay the last tribute of respect to this departed servant of God. The Loganville Masons had charge of the grave service.
Mr. Atha is survived by his wife and seven children, besides his aged mother, four brothers and two sisters, Mr. Oscar Atha, of Lawrenceville, being one among his brothers, each of whom have the sympathy of countless friends in the untimely departure of this good man.
