After getting a fair start in country school, Darwin became a student at Maple Rapids, walking 3 and a half miles to and from for six months. In 1868 he left his fathers home and located on a farm in Lebanon Township, remaining there six years, and then returning to Essex and taking up his residence on section 20, where he has since remained.
In 1867, Mr. Bancroft married Miss. Desiah M. Irwin, daughter of Thomas and Betsey Irwin. To this union three children were born, named respectively; A.D. Bancroft, Jesse, and Murdow Bancroft.
