Frederick Ernest Bridges, 82, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020. Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Fred and Ava Honeycutt Bridges. Ernest was a longtime Raleigh and Garner firefighter, spending more than 25 years serving his community. He was also in the National Guard for 6 years, where he enjoyed serving his country. During his time in Garner, Ernest was an active member of the Freemasons, Shriners, and The Eastern Star. He and his wife Joyce, of 58 years, both had servant’s hearts and will be greatly missed by all they knew. They both loved their family a great deal and will be deeply missed.
There will be a private burial at Montlawn Memorial Park for the family. Due to the current situation and restrictions, a celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
Survivors include his daughter, Audrey Harty; grandson, Scott Harty; sister, Bessie Williams; and a niece, Bonnie Goad.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Williford Bridges; son in law, Todd Harty; brother and sister in law, John “Jeff” and Catherine Bridges; and a brother in law, Delmas Williams.
