Early in 1811 traveling by wagon train they started the long journey from South Carolina to Amite County, Mississippi. This journey took a year, with a short stop in Georgia, where several children were born. William traveled with his wife, his Mother and siblings and their families.
After homes were built, the first Methodist church was built in that area, called Adams Campground and later the Adams Methodist Church.
