Elvina M. Jolivette Guidry, lovingly known as "Mickey", was born on November 7, 1938 in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was a proud 1958 graduate of the Holy Rosary Catholic Institute of Lafayette, La.

On July 26, 2020, Mickey went home to be with the saints in Heaven.

She was married to Clarence L. Guidry of Ridge, Louisiana for 51 years until parted by his death on February 17, 2009. She was a loving devoted mother of 5, a caring and kind big sister, and was family and close friend to so many more.

Elvina is survived by 4 children and 4 grandchildren, Sonya Guidry (Raymond Girtman, Raphael and Sterling Girtman, son and daughter), Herbert Guidry (daughter -Shondra McCoy), Kimberly Guidry-Williams (Anthony Williams, and Charity Williams, daughter), and Ursula Guidry-Dancy (Jason Dancy) all of Houston. Her youngest child, David Joseph Guidry, went ahead to Glory in 2016.

She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Anna Bell (Anthony Bell), Delores Broussard (James Broussard), and her brothers and sisters-in-law: Moses Jolivette (Teresa Jolivette) and Raymond Jolivette (Janelle Jolivette), and brother-in-law, Matthew Guidry (Kathy Guidry). She is also survived by one maternal aunt Alice Simon-Ridgle, and a host of nieces, nephews, & cousins all of whom she cherished.

She was also preceded in death by her mother Annie Bell (Albro) Jolivette and father Frank Jolivette Sr., brother Frank Jolivette Jr. of Lafayette, La, both her maternal grandparents: Blane Albro & Ora (Norman) Albro & paternal grandparents: Francois Jolivette & Alvina Jolivette. After Alvina's passing, Francois married Adniece Trahan, who loved Elvina like her own. Also gone ahead are Elvina's dear Father & Mother-in-law Joseph & Rosella Guidry, brother-in-law Herbert "Short" Guidry, sister-in-law, Ella Mae "Tiggy" Guidry (Amie), husband, Leroy Amie, and son Kevin Amie. Along with many Uncles, Aunts, and cousins passed on... we believe that she is happily reunited in Heaven with all of them now.

"Mickey" was a kind and generous person throughout her life. She exhibited what a Christian should be; forgiving and thoughtful. Although chronically ill and confined for many years, she constantly inquired about the well-being of others with relatively few complaints. She was always positive and uplifting to others' spirits with kind words of encouragement.

She was the family Historian, keeping the memories of our ancestors alive with her vivid stories of them from long past. She had a special way of bringing them all to life again. She never forgot them nor allowed any of us to forget either.

Some of her hobbies were sewing, decorating, music appreciation, reading historical fiction, and studying Black history especially tracing her own family genealogy. She was the BEST chef ever and even when she could no longer cook, taught her caregiver Gloria, how to cook all of her favorite Cajun/Creole recipes! She even did a bit of matchmaking from time to time, most successfully by introducing her sister Anna to her husband Anthony Bell.

She loved Facebook and enjoyed seeing what the young folks were up to! She was filled with life and love and had a way of making EVERYONE feel that she was THEIR own personal confidant and advisor. Because of this gift of making connections, many of the health care team that visited her became fast & forever friends.

Special Thanks to Phoenix Health for providing Mom with loving care throughout the years: Alex, Kendra, Cesar, & Omarosa. We also thank Davita Dialysis Cypress Station for their team's dedication.

Special Thanks to Gloria Stubberud and Lavetta Dockery for being caregivers in Mom's home.

Elvina leaves behind a host of family along with so many special friends whom she always enjoyed visiting with in-person when her health allowed and by phone as often as possible. She was deeply loved and will forever be missed.
