Sigmond was adopted by Joseph Nicholas Schaaf (1855-1933) and Anna Mary Schleh (1857-1930), who had ten other children of their own. His birth parents and exact dates of birth and death and place of burial remain unknown. The only document other than family records that names him is the 1895 MN Territorial census, where he is found with the Schaaf family on their farm in Dublin, MN. Family records indicate that he died from complications of measles caught from Joe Schaaf, who contacted measles while visiting his old home that winter. Sigmond died in the hospital in St. Joseph, MN. about 1898.
