RIALTO DEATH CLAIMS ROBERT S. TOLLE
The funeral of the late Robert S. Tolle, whose death occurred this morning at an early hour, will take place at the Methodist Episcopal church tomorrow, Sunday, afternoon, at 3 o'clock. Robert Tolle, dead. This is the news that came as an overwhelming blow to the family and friends of Mr Tolle this morning, who had looked forward to greeting him again in his home today, on his return from a two-weeks confinement at a San Bernardino hospital, following an operation for appendicitis. So successful had been the operation, and so rapid his convalescence, that his physicians had promised that he might be brought home today, and all day yesterday his little family had been planning for his home-coming, and rose bright and early for the purpose, only to meet at the hesitating lips of a neighbor, the heartbreaking news. Mr. Tolle's death was occasioned by a paralytic stroke. According to the report of the nurse, he had been sleeping quietly at midnight. Twenty minutes later she heard his voice, and hurried to him to find that he was unconscious. She immediately called the hospital surgeon, Dr. Mills, and Dr. Andrews, Mr. Tolle's physician, but the patient was past all help, and death followed at 1:30 o'clock. There are many men who could be spared from a community better than Robert Tolle. Not that he was a public man, or a man of office; City these places can be filled. Mr. Tolle was a good man. it is the encomium one hears on all sides today, and it is enough. He was a man who feared God and loved his fellow men. He was a plain man. He had no new ideas of reform and service; he was a devoted member of the church of his father. He was a trustee, which means hard work for the church; he was a member of the building committee which raised the newly-modeled church, and that means that he sacrificed time and money and the work of his hands. He has been a successful teacher of a class of young boys for years, which means that he loved boys, and knew the way to their hearts. He was a quiet man, but he had a smile that one remembered. Of his devotion to his family it is not necessary to speak. He leaves five young sons.
