Mrs. Elizabeth Thornton, wife of Hugh Thornton of Rialto, died at their home in that colony Sunday morning, at the age of 65 years. Apoplexy caused her death.
Mrs. Thornton was one of the best known women of Rialto, the family having been resident in the colony for many years, in fact was one of the earliest families to settle there. The deceased was a native of Scotland.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in San Bernardino, from the parlors of the Aldridge & Stephens company.

FUNERAL OF MRS. THORNTON IN SAN BERNARDINO TODAY
March 20. (Staff correspondenco of THE SUN) Mrs. Elizabeth Thornton died at her home In Rialto Monday morning from a stroke of apoplexy. Sunday Mrs. Thornton who was in her usual health, visited a daughter in Colton. That death came to her peacefully and painlessly is evident from the fact that she did not awaken her husband who was sleeping beside her. He woke about four o'clock, and finding her so cold and quiet he became greatly alarmed and sent for Dr. D. B. Crediford, who decided that from all indications death must nave come two hours previous.
Mrs. Thornton was born In Scotland 65 years ago. For the past 15 years she has resided in Rialto, where she leaves a large circle of friends. In the passing away of Mrs. Thornton, Rialto loses one of her best and most noble women and the family Is bereft of a loving mother. Her husband and eight children survive her, Hugh Thornton of San Francisco; Mrs. Mary Goode of Stockton and William Thornton of Stockton; A. G. Thornton of Rialto; Mrs. L. A. Fuller of Los Angeles; John Thornton of Fredalba; Mrs. Marlon Metcalf of Colton; An drew Thornton of Rialto.
The funeral will occur tomorrow (Wednesday) in San Bernardino at 2 o'clock from the Latter Day Saints' church, at the corner of Fifth and G streets. Rev ; J. W.' Williams1 of Los Angeles will conduct the services. Porter Brimmer, William Dunn, G. B. Oliver, N. L. May and N. S. Bates will act as pall bearers. .

Elisabeth R. Smith was born on January 18, 1841, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. She married Hugh Kennedy Thornton on October 28, 1861, in American Fork, Utah. They had eight children in 19 years. She died on March 19, 1906, in Rialto, California, at the age of 65, and was buried there.
