Mrs. Hambrick Passes Away At Home of Nephew

Monday afternoon, January 21st, at 2:30 o'clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Bradley, of Mountain district, Mr. Bradley being a fond nephew, death claimed Mrs. Sallie Locklin Hambrick, widow of the late A. J. Hambrick.

She was a native of Walton county and was born unto Samuel G. and Rebecca Stephens Locklin August 28th, 1843; married December 22nd, 1889. Following the death of her husband, she made her home with relatives in Walton county, Atlanta, and spent some few months in Florida. She was one of a number of children, being a twin sister of the late Mrs. James M. Bradley, who died five years ago. She is survived by only one sister, Mrs. Judie Evans, of Jacksonville, Fla., who, we are informed, was too feeble to attend the funeral and burial. She was a first cousin of our honored fellow-townsman, James Z. Locklin, and to her Mr. Locklin was devoted-they having played together when young.

She is survived by many other relatives and the following nephews and nieces: Thomas, Oscar L., James and Samuel Bradley, Mrs. John Verner, Monroe; Mrs. Odelle Coker, Florida Mrs. Sallie Bowman, Buford Mrs. James Turner, Mrs. William Stroud, Atlanta; Thomas DeLay, Atlanta; Mrs. Mollie Dease, Atlanta; Mrs. John Hutchins, William Shepherd, Atlanta; Texas Cooper, Atlanta; Mrs. June Ward, Statham; Miss Mamie Locklin, Bogart; Charles Evans, Watkinsville; Robert H. Evans, Monroe, and Harry Locklin, Atlanta.

Mrs. Hambrick at an early age, became a member of Bethabara Baptist church, Oconee county, but after her marriage she, April 27th, 1893, united with the Methodist Episcopal church, South, and remained there until death, holding her membership at Pleasant Grove Methodist church, Gratis. She was a woman of the most beautiful type of Christian character and refinement - holding the confidence and esteem of all who knew her. She died as she had lived, happy in the faith of the saints, and went sweeping Home to Heaven, and in her passing, Heaven is richer and earth is poorer, but the influence she wielded will be shown in the lives of those who knew her, and under whose roof she was permitted to live, and those who had the least association with her can never forget the benigned influence of her life. She was devoted to her nephews and nieces, and they to her.

The funeral of this good lady, largely attended by people from far and near, occurred at Bethabara Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, and was conducted by the editor of The News, pastor of the church to which the deceased belonged, followed by the interment in the church yard cemetery, the E. L. Almand Co., funeral directors, having charge of the body and the following grand-nephews served as pall bearers: Guy Eden Bradley, Roy Bradley, Thomas Moodie Bradley, Lester Bradley, James Verner and M. F. Coker.

Many pretty and fragrant flowers were in evidence - typical of a life of loveliness and good deeds - and at the church many and comforting songs were rendered by a select choir.

The News extends to the bereaved loved ones its most tender, profound sympathy.
