John was the son of Thos. Ballard Bronston and Annie Stivers of Richmond, Kentucky. Ballard & Annie were married April 6, 1881, divorced in March 1890, and remarried Sept 1, 1890, the same day Ballard was shot and killed by Annie's brother-in-law. After his death there are no further records of Annie. This writer cannot explain why John changed his middle name.
