Gordon was born on November 12, 1928 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Oglethorpe University with a Bachelors of Arts and Columbia Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. He pastored several church congregations and served in the mission field abroad, leading with reliance on his Heavenly Father. In 1993, he retired from full time ministry, continuing to serve in his community, ministering to inmates on death row at Mississippi’s Parchman State prison and leading a Bible study at a juvenile correctional facility. Gordon was a faithful member of Raymond First Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. He was also faithful in prayer for his family, his church, and the world.
Gordon is preceded in death by his father, Leo Lyle, mother, Hazel Lyle Anderson, his brother, Gerald Lyle; his sister Ruth McGuire; and his great grandson John Patrick Sadler. He is survived by his wife, Joy Beardshaw Lyle of Raymond, MS; son Gregg Lyle (Paula) of Gautier, MS; daughter Gina Hays (Bob), of Opelika, AL; daughter, Jennifer Culp (John), of Quincy, MA; 13 grandchildren: Sarah, Emily, David, Heather, Kristen, Victoria, Andrew, Judy, Lydia, Karaleigh, Emily, Noah, and Melody; and 14 great grandchildren: Kaelem, Quincy, Reuben, Wynelle, Sydney, Dallas, Felicity, Jack, Jackson, Leo, Tate, Navi, Nature, and Amos.
A graveside service will be held on Monday August 3, 2020, at 10:00 am at the Raymond Cemetery on Dry Grove Rd. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Raymond Presbyterian Church P.O. box 1414 Raymond MS, 39154.
