Ms. Henley, known as Myrl to family and friends, was born in Arkabutla, MS on May 22, 1937.
Myrl later moved to Memphis with her family and graduated from Southside High School in 1955. She was an extremely hard worker and spent 40 years working for Cummins Mid-South, where she never missed a day of work.
Myrl was a devoted mother who always went above and beyond to provide for and encourage her daughter. Her daughter and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was so proud of all of them. She adored her family and was happiest when spending time with them, especially travelling to Gatlinburg or the beach.
Myrl was a loving, beautiful, and caring mother, aunt, and friend. She would drop everything at a moment’s notice when anyone needed help. She made an impact on numerous lives by being an encourager and lifting others up.
Myrl was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Gladys Franks; brothers Clarence Franks and Pete Franks; and sisters, Carolyn Perkins and Gladys Hodge.
She is survived by her only child, Kriste Cullum and son-in-law, Kevin of Germantown; grandchildren, Sarah Cullum of Washington, DC, Caroline Cullum of Atlanta, GA, and Jack Cullum also of Germantown. Myrl is also survived by her companion of 35 years, Mr. Boyd Mills, and his three daughters Melissa Mills, Beth Davidson, and Paula Mills, as well as her sister, Ruby Tunnell, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of Avalon Hospice, especially Lynn Woodruff, Angelica Hamilton, and Ebony Glaspie, who took such great care of Myrl with love and compassion. Further, two additional caregivers, Diana Dolle and Daisy Rowland, were angels sent from heaven during this time. All caregivers allowed her daughter, Kriste, to care for her at her home over the past several years.
Words cannot adequately express how much Myrl will be missed, but her family finds great comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace, free of pain and suffering. Many times over the past few weeks, she said that she was tired and wanted to go home. She is Home and has eternal life with God in Heaven.
“He will wipe away very tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
