David Kurtis McGowan, 66, passed away July 27 after fighting a brave battle against illness. He was born on August 13, 1953 in Corpus Christi, TX to Betty (Crain) and George McGowan. He married Barbara (Brees) McGowan on May 28, 1977 in Girard, Kansas. She survives him and was his devoted wife and loving, compassionate caregiver during his illness.

Being the son of a 20 year career Navy serviceman, they traveled and lived in many different parts of the United States and two years in Japan. After his father’s retirement from Naval service, they settled in Bartlesville, OK. He attended NEO Community College, transferring to Oklahoma State University graduating in 1975. David worked in the information technology field for Cities Service/Occidental Petroleum for 22 years, then completed his career with 20 more years of service at Hilti Inc. retiring May 5, 2018.

He always cherished the many friends and relationships that he held dear from his vast career experiences, keeping in touch with so many colleagues from his years in the IT field. Once you met Dave, he was your lifetime friend. Dave’s wit and big personality touched so many family and friends and endeared him to them forever. In addition he loved family, friends, farming, hunting and fishing and he was always willing to go above and beyond in pursuit of his passions.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by two brothers Danny McGowan (Patty) of Germantown, TN and Douglas (Lori) McGowan of Dewey, OK and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were family to both he and Barbara. He is also preceded in death by his mother and father.
David was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Church of St. Benedict, Broken Arrow, OK.
