Amanda J. "Gran" Galloway moved as a bride in 1886 from Tennessee to Texas. She was a long standing member, and the oldest, of the Mesquite Baptist Church at the time of her death. She raised two step-sons Bedford and N.L. Galloway, a step-niece Mrs. Clara Bowser and an orphan George Willard. Her step-son B. F. Galloway was mayor of Mesquite.
She passed away after a short illness, although she had broken her hip twice and also her arm and had been semi-invalid for several years. Her husband Ben preceded her in death.
