Birth years for Capt. (and Dr.) Robert Ware range from 1749 to 1753. He was the son of Nicholas Ware III (1726-1800), and Dorothy "Dolly" Garrett (1729-1791). An alternate possible mother is Sarah Munday. He married Margaret "Peggy" Tankersly Bassell, on December 29, 1767 in Caroline County, Virginia. Robert served as a Captain in the Virginia Militia, known as the Minute Men. He was wounded three times during the Revolutionary War. Robert and Margaret had the following children:
