Mr. Carl Rudolph Abel, Sr., 73, of Lake City, Florida died Saturday, January 15, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City following an extended illness. Mr. Abel was a native of Richmond, VA and had resided in Hartwood, VA before moving to Lake City, FL four years ago. He was employed as a Security Policeman with the Department of Defense, Woodbridge, VA for over 25 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, participating in the Battle of Luzon, the Philippine Liberation and the occupation of Japan. He was the President of his CB club and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also enjoyed bluegrass festivals and gold prospecting. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Alice Robinson Abel, Lake City, FL; one son: Carl R. Abel, Jr., Florida City, FL; three step-sons, James M. Pomeroy, Melboure, FL, Scott E. Pomeroy, Hampton, VA, an Michael W. Pomeroy, San Diego, CA; his cousin, Alfred Anderson, Widewater, VA; his aunt Virginia Anderson, Triangle, VA. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm, Friday, January 21, 2000 in the Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, VA with Bishop Leonard Gees of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Sains officiating. Please make memorials to the American Cancer Society, 2119 S.W. 16th Street, Gainesville, FL, 32602. Gueny Funeral Home, 4309 S. First Street, Lake City, is in charge of all arrangements.
