Carroll Stone Benedict was born in Glasgow, the son of the late Garland S. and Pearl Underwood Benedict. He was the owner and operator of Benedict and Benedict Inc., and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was very active in civic and community affairs and at the present was serving as the chairman of the Board of Directors of T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Carroll was also a member and past president of the Glasgow Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, was a former member and chairman of the Glasgow Board of Education, and a member and former director of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed tennis and horses and was an avid Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder and had served as president of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Association.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Lewis Benedict; a son, Spencer Benedict and wife Carrie of Glasgow; a daughter, Jane Layton Benedict of Glasgow; a grandson, Austin Benedict of Glasgow; an aunt, Rachel Benedict of Etoile; his mother-in-law, Ernestine Lewis of Glasgow; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jane and C.E. Rutledge of Glasgow and Steve and Laura Lewis of Franklin, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Burial was in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
