Isaac Clute Burdick, the subject of this sketch, was born at Litchfield, Herkimer county, this state, December 3, 1812. His parents' names were Ebeneser Burdick and Rachel Clute Burdick. In this family were four boys and six girls. When Isaac was one year old the family moved to Brookfield. In August 1829, he came to this section and lived in Lysander four years. In 1843 Mr. Burdick took the first paper published in Baldwinsville, and has been a subscriber ever since. His early education was received in the school at Brookfield, and he attended school in Van Buren two years. Mr. Burdick learned the carpenter's trade and was for many years a large contractor, having built many of the buildings in the surrounding country. May 13, 1835, he was united in marriage to Pamelia A. Sprague by Rev. Benjamin Rider. She died December 13, 1839, leaving two children. April 24, 1841, he was again united in marriage to Sarah Ann Davis, by Rev. Browning Nichols. She died July 9, 1872, being survived by eight children, all of whom are still living except Silas E. who died October 5 1882.

Mr. Burdick was constable for two years, this being the only political office he ever held. In politics he has always been a Democrat. He has been a member of the Methodist church in this place for many years. In 1830 he joined an artillery company, charged to the 16th Regiment of Infantry, 27th Brigade, 18th Division, State of New York, and was on duty up to 1839. After joining the infantry company he was appointed fourth corporal, and from that quickly rose to captain, which rank he held when he resigned. Mr. Burdick is at present living at his old homestead on McHarrie street, and enjoying the best of health.
