Mrs. Martha J. Calvird, mother of Mr. J. W. Calvird of this place, died suddenly at the home of her granddaughter, whom she was visiting, in Leadwood, Monday, August 21, 1911, aged 76 years 10 months and 3 days. Mrs. Calvird, whose maiden name was Brown, was born in Kentucky, October 24, 1834, and was married to G. W. B. Calvird in 1851. To this union 10 children were born seven of whom are living: J. W. Clavird of Farmington, T. H. Calvird of Perry County, Wm. B. Calvird of Kansas City, Mrs. Lee Moore of Flat River, T. B. Calvird of Bonne Terre, Mrs. Stanley Resinger of Rural Route No. 3 and Emmet Calvird of Esther. Her husband died July 31, 1890.
Mrs. Calvird was a member of the Christian Church, a faithful and consistent follower of the Master, and a devoted and loving mother. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Flat River Wednesday morning, and the body was taken to Doe Run for interment.
