Vernon "Vern" Alvin Huhta of Rochester passed away on October 5, 2003 in Tacoma at the age of 52.

Vern was born on May 28, 1950. He received his teaching degree from WSU and taught in the Brooklyn and Rochester School District. He was most recently employed by Doleman Dairy of Rochester.

Vern was very active in Grange. He was a 7th degree member of National Grange and Washington State Grange. He joined Independence Grange in 1968. When Independence Grange closed he demitted to Ford's Prairie Grange where he was still a member. He was an affiliate member of Logan Hill Grange and held the office of Executive Committee in Lewis County Pomona Grange. He has held many offices in Grange. Vernon was a member of the degree team and also on the drill team which he has performed at state and local levels.

Vern was very active in Grange and he loved to travel and photograph every Grange Hall he could find in Washington State. His collection is quite extensive.

Two children, Sara and Ryan of Pierce County, survive Vern. His parents, Max and Margaret Huhta of Rochester, preceded him in death.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Ford's Prairie Community Grange Hall, 2640 Reynolds Avenue, Centralia. William Hughes, Master of Lewis County Pomona will be officiating.
