Evangeline Hagen, 73, Bismarck, died Sept. 23, 2002, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at McClusky Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Evangeline was born Feb. 7, 1929, at McClusky, the daughter of David and Anna Marie (Mauch) Axt. She was raised and educated in McClusky and attended college at Minot State and Mary College. On Aug. 29, 1948, she married Milton F. Hagen. Evangeline taught in rural schools in Sheridan, Richland, Morton, McHenry and Burleigh counties from 1947 to 1973. She taught adult education reading in Burleigh County from 1975 to 1980 and reading in the Bismarck Public Schools from 1976 to 1986.

Evangeline was a volunteer for the Medcenter One Auxiliary. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and was very active in church activities, especially the quilting group. She enjoyed working with children, crafts, sewing and traveling.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Ann and Marvin Schuler, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Sunee Hagen, Richland Hills, Texas; three grandchildren, Dana Schuler and DeAnn Strand, both of Bismarck, and Mayo Lloyd, New Haven, W. Va.; three step-grandchildren, Renee Danielson, LeAnn Tschider and Ricky Schuler, all of Bismarck; two great-grandchildren, Carter Strand and Corissa Lloyd; eight step-great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Wesley Kahler, Fargo; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Delores Axt, McClusky, Laverne and Mary Axt, Baldwin, and Donald and JoAnn Axt, McClusky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; one brother, Arnold Axt; and one sister, Olivia Hoffmann.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Alexius Hospice and Abused Adult Resource Center.
