Norma McCorkle, 80, of Chattanooga, passed from this life on July 20, 2020.

She was Mama and Nana, and she had a smile that could light up a room. Norma was a very passionate woman who loved living life on her terms, and she did live! Shopping may not be everyone’s forte, but with Norma, it was an art form. She loved tracking down the best bargains. Classic country music was another passion, and her list of favorite artists included such greats as Con Hunley, Gene Watson, and Jim Reeves. She was an amazing cook, and enjoyed it as well, but she also enjoyed a good meal out at a nice restaurant. She looked well-dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt, and her hair and makeup always seemed to be perfect. Norma loved to travel and be with people, and she made friends everywhere she went.

She loved the idea of helping people and held memberships in both the American Legion, William Blair Post 95 in East Ridge (2007), and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary 945 in Chattanooga, TN (1981). During her 39 years with the Fraternal Order of Eagles, she served in offices at both the local and state levels. At her Home Auxillary, she served in multiple chairs culminating in serving as Madam President in 1985 – 86 after which she continued her active service locally.

Her service to her State Auxillary began in 1994 as a member of the Ways and Means Committee and continued as she was appointed to Membership Chair for 1995 – 96. She served as Trustee (2001 – 02), Outside Guard (2002 – 03), Trustee (2003-04), Chaplain (2004 – 05), Madam Vice President (2005-06), Madam President – Elect (2006 – 07), Madam President (2007 -08), and Madam Junior Past President (2008- 09). Her charity while State President was the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Cancer Center.

Norma had the privilege of attending State, Seven State, Regional, and National Conventions. While State President, she carried the Tennessee State Flag proudly at the National Convention.

Most of all, she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and “Bill” Worley, and her loving husband of 56 years, Bennett McCorkle.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Robin and her wonderful son-in-law, Tim; granddaughter, Amanda, and her husband, Charles; their children, Eli and Lexa; grandson, Timothy, and his wife Ami; their children, Aiden and Dallas, as well as several cousins.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 27, 2020 from 1 – 2:45 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Norma will be laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
