OBITUARY: William Fiske Rites Tuesday

A heart attack had proved fatal today to William M. L. Fiske, 61, senior partner of Dillon, Read and Co., father of Mrs. Jennison Heaton of Hillsborough and William M. L. "Billy" Fiske III, American volunteer in Britain's royal air force who died of wounds suffered in a battle with German bombers over London.

The elder Fiske, who was stricken last Monday, died Saturday, October 5, 1940, in New York. Friends believe his death was hastened by that of his son last August. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning, October 8, 1940, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Manhattan, New York City, New York.

Fiske and his wife, Beulah R. Fiske, well-known in Peninsula society circles, had divided their time between Paris and New York since 1924 when he was made Paris representative of Dillion, Read and Co., New York investment bankers.

Last August they left Paris following the German invasion of France and reached New York after a difficult journey. They had remained in Paris long after the war made it dangerous to do so in order to be near their son, who was an American Olympic bobsled ace and joined the RAF early in the war.

Since returning to New York they had resided at the Waldorf-Astoria where he suffered the heart attack. His wife and daughter were at his bedside when he died. Son of a prominent physician, Fiske was born in Brooklyn and went to Chicago at age 18 and later joined the firm of William A Bend & Co., predecessor of Dillion, Read and Col.

His son was popular in American and European social circles and was associated with his father in banking concern. Young Fiske, who in September of 1939, married the beautiful Rose Bingham, former countess of Warwick, was the first American to be killed while fighting with the RAF.

In addition to his widow and daughter, the elder Fiske is survived by another son, Jack Fiske.

William Meade Lindsley Fiske II and Beulah R Worden were married on June 30, 1906, in Chicago, Illinois.
