Helen Arlene Arthur, 100, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on December 5, 1920, in rural Garber, the daughter of Frank and Rilla (Palmer) Parker. Helen was a graduate of Edgewood High School.

On June 11, 1938, Helen was united in marriage to Alfred Arthur in Manchester. Two sons were born to this union. The family moved to Edgewood in 1962 and purchased the grocery store that Alfred had worked at while he was a teenager. Alfred and Helen operated the store known as A&H Grocery until their retirement. Helen then worked as a greeter at the Leonard Funeral Home in Edgewood.

Helen was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the UMW, Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a Pythian Sister for over 50 years. Helen was a longtime volunteer at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.

Survivors include her son, James Arthur of Urbandale; three grandchildren, Craig, Michael, and Andrea; one great-grandson, Kyle; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Bond.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Arthur; one son, Al Arthur; and two brothers, Steve Parker and Burton Parker.
