Emma Hipps Bumgardner, 77, of Ellenboro, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1929, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late George Madison Hipps and Zulie Mae Queen Hipps Arrowood.

Three brothers, Clyde Hipps, Dock Hipps and Michael Hipps; and two sisters, Fannie Lee Bumgardner and Nettie H. Waller preceded her in death.

She was the wife of the late J. U. Bumgardner.

Mrs. Bumgardner was a homemaker and member of Duncans Creek Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by son, Bobby Gene Bumgardner of Polkville; three daughters and their husbands, Patsy and Hugh Lee Sparks of Polkville, Lorene and Arnold Van Dyke of Williamsburg, Va., and Elizabeth and Charles Pruitt of Polkville; two grandsons, Michael Bumgardner and Brandon White; five granddaughters, Donna Ledford, Sherry Earwood, Lisa Sparks, Amanda Van Dyke and Michelle Van Dyke; brother, James M. Hipps of Indiana; sister and her husband, Mattie Edwards and Grady of Shelby; and five great-grandchildren, Robyn Ledford, Megan Earwood, Maggie Ledford, Malerie Earwood and Aubrey Bumgardner.

Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove United Methodist with the Rev. Eugene Bumgardner officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston. At other times, the family will be at the home of Elizabeth and Charles Pruitt. Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston is assisting the Bumgardner Family with arrangements.
