Julie Kay Cardani was born June 27th of 1957 in Davenport, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Shirley Hayes Cardani. She was baptized at the Holy Family Church in Davenport July 14th of 1957. When she was four years of age the family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where they resided for three years. And after briefly living in New Mexico the family moved once again to Centerville, Iowa in 1963, where Julie attended and graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1975.
In 1975, Julie and Dwight Pfannebecker became life companions and made their home in Centerville.
She was employed as co-owner of the family business at "Joe's Quick Shop" in Centerville until May of 2003 after which, she decided to try a career in nursing. After receiving CNA training, she was employed part-time by the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center and had enrolled in nurses training at Indian Hills Community College. After her cancer diagnosis, she was forced to give up her studies and returned to the family business when her health permitted.
The light of Julie's life was she and Dwight's daughter, Kaysie Lin. She loved raising their daughter and attending all of her various activities. In Julie's spare time, she was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers and spending time with family and friends. As an animal lover, she loved caring for and watching the antics of their many pets; she especially enjoying watching their horses race across the fields.
Julie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa where in the past she had served as Church Organist for several years.
Julie died at her home in Centerville on November 4th of 2005 after losing her twenty-one month battle with throat cancer, surrounded by her loving family. At the time of her death, Julie had been blessed with 48 years, 4 months, and 7 days of life on this earth. In death, Julie joins her Paternal Grandparents, Joe and Bertha Cardani, Maternal Grandparents, Clyde and Mary Hays along with her little sister, Linda Cardani, who died in 1979 of Leukemia. Julie will also join Dwight's parents, Ralph and Fanchen Pfannebecker, along with Dwight's brother, Dennis Pfannebecker.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her life companion of thirty years, Dwight Pfannebecker of Centerville, their daughter Kaysie Lin Cardani-Pfannebecker of Centerville, a stepdaughter, Shane Pfannebecker of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and two step-grandchildren, Tracy and Troy. Also remembering her are her parents, Joseph and Shirley Cardani of Centerville, two sisters, Kathy Cardani and Debbie McConville, both of Centerville, and one brother, Michael Cardani with his wife also of Centerville along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Julie's body was laid to rest at the Oakland Cemetery of Centerville, Iowa. Visitation services were held at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon of November 6th, 2005 at 4:30 PM. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Centerville, Iowa on Monday, November 7th, 2005 at 11:30 AM. / Fr. Ron Will C.PP.S, Officiating.
