Bennie P. Jaeke, 75, of 1200 15th St., Rock Island, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday in Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, where he had been a patient the past three months.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Church of Peace, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation at the Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is after 2 p.m. Thursday. The body will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
He was born Dec. 12, 1890, in Janesville, Wis.
On Dec. 25, 1919, he married Cottie Weiss in Jefferson City, Mo. The couple moved to Rock Island 47 years ago.
Mr. Jaeke owned and operated the College Shoe Repair for 46 years, operating out of his home, 1200 15th St., for 43 years.
He was a member of the Church of Peace; Camp No. 26, Modern Woodmen of America; and a charter member of American Legion Post No. 200, Rock Island.
He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Army.
Surviving are the wife; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Shank, St. Louis, Mo.; and Mrs. Robert Carlson, Brea, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Meta Von Kahl, Des Plaines, Ill.; Mrs. Elizabeth Egan, North Wilberham, Mass.; Mrs. Freda Lindley, San Fernando, Calif.; and Mrs. Elsie Lalley, Freeport, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
