Hattie Princess Hawks Gammons, 85, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Monday, May 29, 2006, at her home.
She was born September 9, 1920 in Patrick County to the late Irby Lee and Nora Ellen Cloud Hawks.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett Hoover Gammons; a grandson, Richard Glenn Bird; and three sisters, Elma Whittman, Christine White and Ina Malone.
She retired as a cook from Northern Virginia Training Center in Fairfax, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Mount Airy.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Lee Carter of Mount Airy and Brenda Sue Durst of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; four sons, Carl Ray Murray of the home, Larry Rayburn Murray of Little River, S.C., Michael Gammons of Clarksville, Tenn., and Dennis Wade Gammons of Greensboro, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by the Rev. Randy Edwards. Burial was in the Puckett Memorial Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
