Henry Bruce stated in a letter dated Feb. 21, 1855, addressed to his third cousin James (Coles) Bruce in Halifax Co., VA, in writing of his three sons, "The youngest I named for your father." He was referring to James Bruce (1763-1837), an extremely wealthy and well-known Bruce in Virginia. Henry also states in this letter, "My sons are all in easy circumstances. The oldest and youngest live near me."
This letter detailing the family tree and other family matters is reprinted in the highly recommended book The Bruce Family Descending From George Bruce (1650 - 1715), authored and published in 1977 by John Goodall Bruce.
