Ruby Louise Holder, 84, longtime resident of Winfield and former manager of McGill's Cafe and the Western Drive Inn, died June 5, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village. She had formerly lived at 1209 Millington. Grave side services will be held at 2PM Thursday at Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Fulton will officiate. Friends may call at Swisher, Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 9AM to 8PM Wednesday. Memorials have been established with the H.L. Snyder Research Foundation, Grace Episcopal Church and the Cumbernauld Village Van Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Holder was born March 13, 1915, in McAllen, Texas, to Louis and Lydia (Appling) Pullin. She attended McAllen area schools and graduated from McAllen High School. In 1940 she moved to Winfield and went to work for her sister and brother-in-law, Rhodia Lee and Harry Bourdette, at the Har-Bour Cafe, located at 219 East Ninth. She later worked for the Bourdettes at the Colony Restaurant at 809 Main before returning to the Har-Bour Cafe.
On August 26, 1950, she married Harley W. Hedges. For several years, they lived in Winfield before moving to Fort Worth, Texas, in the late 1950s. They returned to Winfield shortly before Mr. Hedges died on June 21, 1962.
On October 1, 1964, she married Charles R. Holder. They resided in Ponca City, Oklahoma where both of them were employed at the Quo Vadis Hotel and Restaurant owned by her former brother-in-law, Leslie Hedges and Pete McGill. Mr. Holder died on May 6, 1966 and shortly after that, Mrs. Holder moved back to Winfield and lived with her sister, Rhodia Lee Pullin Bourdette.
During the late 1960s and the 1970s, Mrs. Holder was employed as a manager and cashier for McGill at his restaurant on North Main and later was employed in a similar capacity at the Western Drive Inn which was owned by Hedges and McGill. Mrs. Holder retired from the restaurant business in the late 1970s. She was a member of the Elks Lodge 732 Auxiliary.
Survivors include a sister, Lottie Henning, San Antonio, Texas; a nephew, Robert Bob Bourdette, Winfield and three nieces, Marilyn K. Littles, Winfield, Gloria Lee Nelson, Hurst, Texas and Judy Meyn, San Antonio, Texas.
